Friday Focus: The professional writer

"A professional writer is an amateur who didn't quit." ~ Richard Bach

See! It isn't the perfect query, the well-worded synopsis, the requests for partials filling up our email inboxes, the contests we've won. It's not quitting when the going gets tough, when the words don't come, when everything looks jumbled and nothing makes sense and we think we're crazy for doing what we're doing.

So keep going, no matter what, my writerly friends! Be a professional! =)

Happy Friday!

That's one of my favorite quotes by one of my favorite authors.

Thanks for the words of encouragement on my blog yesterday. I appreciate them.

I heard this quote several years ago and it really did keep me going through the hard times and encourage me to persevere.

Perfect quote!

I coach soccer, U10B, which is boys under 10.

We get monkey-stomped. Bad. Like 17-0, and that's a soccer score.

I tell my boys and their parents: If we learn nothing else from this season, we'll learn how not to quit.

I said that last season, at the end, after we'd scored 2 goals against 120 goals the whole season.

Now we're back for more! So far it's about 35 goals against us, and we have 1 goal from last week.

It's about not quitting. It's about positive thinking: Next time we'll win. Tonight we'll be a better team! Go Great White! (that's our team name, The Great White)

It's about being too stupid to quit, which explains a lot about the most successful people in the world.

So dumb yourself down until you're too stupid to know you're beat. That's the only way to succeed.

- Eric
